The Annual Summer 7v7 Tournament kicks off early this season on Monday night
May 5th at Throgs Neck Park in Whitestone Queens. New York Salamina with a young
U-23 squad will compete this year in attempt to develop some of its young talent. "It's
an opportunity for our younger players to participate" commented Head Coach
Andrew Parperides. Players like Daniel Cano, Alberto Tortosa and Andrew Ma will
look to gain valuable experience for the future. The Calcetto is a summer tradition
among the Italian American Soccer Community and it's running for the 25th straight
season since 1983. New York Salamina has won two titles in the Tournament in

In other news NY Salamina dropped
a regular season gmae to US Parma at Aviator Sports Complex last Saturday
night by the score of 7-4. Salamina fell behind early 4-1
by halftime but staged a good comeback in the second half
by cutting the lead to 5-4. Two late goals by Parma sealed
the victory for the Jersey side. Two fatal goalie mistakes
in the first half on the very wet synthetic grass by Vadim
Slashtchev proved to be the difference in the game. The
Reds goals were scored by Jayson (2), Berenzon and Afrim.
The Reds will visit the Sport Club Portuguese this Thursday
May 8th at West Side Park in Newark, New Jersey. Kick off
is at 8:30 P.M.
