Demetris Parperides,
our beloved Club President gave his last breath on Monday morning
July 3rd at 8:30 A.M in Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. Demetris
was 79 years old and leaves behind his wife Georgia, his son
Andreas , his daughter-in-law Dora, his daughter Elena , his
son-in-law Gus, and his two grandchildren Anezina and Georgiana.
Demetris suffered a massive stroke on June 15th that worsened
to a pneumonia and other heart complications that were too severe
to overcome. Our President fought like a Champion until the
end for 18 days. Demetris Parperides leaves a Soccer Legacy
behind that started 58 years ago as one of the founding members
of Nea Salamina Famagusta, our Club in Cyprus. He was instrumental
in building Salamina's First Soccer home stadium in Famagusta,
Cyprus, "Dimotiko Stadio Ammochostou". Demetris and
his family emigrated to America in 1975 where they lived in
New York for the last 31 years. He worked hard and provided
for his family, put his children in college and found time to
be active in the New York Soccer Community.
After NY Salamina was founded in 1999, Demetris was elected
President of the Sports Club where he served as a true leader
and a gentleman for the last seven years. The Reds enjoyed and
celebrated a total of 18 First Place Championships during his
term including the Northeastern Super League Championship that
was won recently on his birthday on May 21st, 2006.
"My father preached honesty and good will to all men"
. "The players will miss him dearly. He loved coming to
the games to cheer for his beloved Salamina."
He will be remembered as a kind , gentle soul who got along
with everyone.
TODAY SALAMINA MOURNS THE LOSS OF A PRESIDENT, A GENTLEMAN ,
OUR HERO AND OUR CHAMPION.
Have a Good Journey Demetri, HEAVEN IS A GREAT PLACE!
