NY Salamina in a game of great interest defeated Turkish
American Soccer Club by the score of 6-0 last Sunday at
Cleveland High School in Ridgewood Queens. Salamina coming
off a great win versus Kearny the Sunday before was determined
to continue its winning streak against the Turkish side
of TASC. The Reds started pressing for the early goal that
came on the 14' from Nikola Dokic as he sliced through
the left side of the Turkish defense , he finished with
a strong shot to give Salamina a 1-0 lead. On the 23' a

after a deep throw-in from Mark Boibasa. With a 4-0 advantage

in the second half. Nikola Dokic hit the post on the 58'

off guard and lifted the ball into the net making 5-0 for
Salamina. On the 82' Odunaike struck again after a good
feed from Roberto Oporto capping the 6-0 triumph for New
York Salamina over Turkish American Soccer Club. "This

our Soccer Club" commented President Andrew Parperides. "We
were determined from the beginnning to go after the three
points. A well deserved effort from all." Marco Santana

SALAMINA STORMS BY KEARNY 4-1 |
The Reds visited the Kearny Scots at Gunnell Oval Stadium
last Sunday night. The chilly drizzly conditions did not
stop a determined New York Salamina Team that showed up
to play from the first to the last minute. Nikola Dokic
was taken down early in the game and was given a penalty.
The Kearny goalie made the save on the kick and kept the
score at 0-0. Kearny took the lead thereafter with a close
shot from inside the box. The Reds fought back after a
Kenny Dyer low cross found Nikola Dokic to tie the game
on a good finish at the 26'. On the 33' Carlos Salinas
from a similar position from the right side made the decisive
cross to Harry Triana who gave the lead to the Reds to
stay. Nikola Dokic from a direct kick at the 38' found
a hole through the Scottish wall and ripped a thunderous
shot that found the back of the net ending halftime at
3-1. The second half found the Scottish team pressing for
the goal that would get them back in the game but it never
materialized. Salamina on a counterattack from Peter Antoniades
shot sealed the victory. Peter's shot was deflected on
a save back to Odare who on the rebound slammed the ball
in the net and capped the 4-1 away victory for the Red
and White. LINE-UP: Cabanas, Antoniades, Tsividakis, Triana,

REDS SETTLE FOR A DRAW VERSUS WHITE EAGLES |
The
Reds literally let three points slip through their fingers
last Friday night at L.I.C High School. With the score 1-0
in favor N.Y. Salamina just five minutes before full time the
mistake came to allow the White Eagles to tie the game. A free
kick from the right side from 30 yards away took a vicious
curve and went through the hands of Reds' goalie Vuksan Djoldevic.
NY Salamina had the better chances throughout the game. On the 29', a direct
free kick from Alex Simoncic hit the post. On the 36' Rony Goncalves dribbled
around the opposing goalie and with an open net from five yards he shot
the ball wide.
On the 77' minute Nikola Dokic lifted the Reds ahead from a close shot
for a 1-0 lead. It was very short lived though. The game ended in a 1-1
Draw.
"We deserved to win the game tonight" commented Manager Andrew Parperides. We
didn't convert on the early opportunities. When you keep an opponent in the game,
you give them a new life. And that's what we did. The White Eagles are an experienced
Club that lifted the League Cup last year in the Champions League. Overall our
defense played well but we do need help in the midfield and on top. Too many
missed chances."
LINE-UP: Djoljevic, Tsividakis, Thomas, Bojabasha, Baker, (Dare 32'), Triana,
(Oporto 87'), Reda, (Afrim 62'), Dokic, Goncalves, Dyer, Simoncic.
The Reds host Sporting Astoria on Wednesday in a friendly at L.I.C. Forward
Peter Antoniades is expected to return next week after a long absence from
an injured ankle.
The Reds are at home this Friday night October 19th at L.I.C. in a Champions
League match versus KAPPA REAL WYCKOFF. Kick off is at 8:30 P.M.

REDS DROP A CLOSE OPENER 3-2 TO POLONIA CENTRUM |
The Champions League is the real thing! NY Salamina fought like the Salamina
we know. The Reds jumped into a 1-0 halftime lead after Alex Simoncic converted
on a rebound from a shot that was saved by Polonia's goalie at the 35'.
The second half started with defensive lapses and ended with defensive lapses.
Polonia after a header from a free kick that beat Vuksan Djoljevic tied the score
1-1. The Polish American Team went ahead on the 63' with a close tough angle
shot on target from inside the box. The Reds came back and answered from Nikola
Dokic on the 72'. The tall striker beat the last defender one on one and then
vollied the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
Rony Goncalves had the chance to be the hero on the 85' minute. A ball that found
Rony onside gave the chance to the Reds to come on top. Rony opted not to shoot
. He dribbled wide left of the goalie and attempted to cross the ball to the
middle. The pass was intercepted by a very fast Polish Team. On the same play
Polonia counter attacked and caught the Reds defense offguard. On the same play
Salamina should have won the game.
Instead the Reds allowed the third goal and dropped the opener.
"We're looking to have a good scrimmage on Wednesday and re-group for next Saturday's
game versus Vistula" commented Manager Andrew Parperides. "Marco Santana's injury
was crucial early in the game. We need to focus more on the positives and make
the necessary changes along the way."
The extent of Marco's injury is not quite yet known. We all wish him a speedy
recovery.
